Science is the study of the physical and natural world and phenomena by using the scientific inquiry method. Therefore, science is not only about learning from textbooks and the material to be taught in classrooms. Rather, it’s about exploring, testing, and teaching oneself how to improve life and finding solutions to chronicle problems! In order to do that, the ISSD students conduct themselves like real young scientists and use their language arts, math, critical thinking, computer skills to explore research questions using the scientific methodology. ISSD students have the opportunity to conduct investigations of their choice and interest in any of the following fields; chemistry, physics, math, biochemistry, engineering, computer science, microbiology, etc. Throughout the years, the ISSD students have competed against thousands of other students and placed, first, second, third, and fourth places in the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair. Their hands-on learning projects are aligned with major national and international trends and objectives in education, to strengthen STEM (science, technology, and math) in schools’ curriculum. Science Field Day
Science Field Day is an exciting extra-curricular activity that has been an enjoyable and educational experience for ISSD students. They compete with other schools in San Diego County while applying skills in science, teamwork, and manners that they learn at the Islamic School of San Diego.
The Science Field Day activities are run totally by our dedicated 4th – 6th grade parents who train and coach the students after school under the direction of the school’s science teachers, Ms. Mayada, Ms. Tamador, and Ms. Arwa. This year’s Science Field Day competition will insha’Allah be held on Sat. May 10th.
